Volunteers & Staff:
Male volunteer applications are still being accepted for SHINE 2010. Female volunteer applications closed. Staff applications closed. Every year we run SHINE, a residential Summer Independence Training Project which caters for teenagers and young adults from across Ireland with Spina Bifida and/or Hydrocephalus. SHINE takes place over five separate weeks in different venues and each week is tailored to meet the needs of specific age groups. In the region of 100 participants attend SHINE every year, along with a dedicated team in excess of 80 volunteers and 65 staff. SBHI are thrilled and honoured to work with the Annual Across Ireland Motor Cycle Fun Run on August 28th & 29th 2010. Proceeds from this fantastic event will be used to provide badly needed aid to children with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus throughout the country. Click here for further information.

On Friday 9th October 2009 SBHI held a Hydrocephalus Study at Beaumont Hospital. There were over 100 members and professionals in attendance. George Kennedy, CEO SBHI, opened the day with a presentation about SBHI services. The speakers commenced with a presentation by Mr M Taufiq-A-Sattar - Consultant Neurosurgeon who discussed the Treatment and Management of Hydrocephalus today. Following Mr Sattar, Dr Trudi Edginton presented Cognitive & Behavioural Interventions. During the afternoon session we had presentations by Marie McGonnell - Nurse Advisor ASBAH who spoke about What you need to know when you go home and Catherine McCurry - Education Advisor ASBAH who discussed The Implications for Learning. The most successful and impactful presentation of the day came from Andrea Fox, member of SBHI, who spoke about Living with Hydrocephalus. To view presentations please click on photos below.
