Governance Statement
This statement is issued by the Board of Directors and CEO of Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland (SBHI) in relation to governance standards within the organisation.
Having worked hard since 1968 to support everyone living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus (SB/H) across Ireland, we are very proud of the support and services we provide nationally.
In order to sustain this essential work, the Board of Directors and CEO are fully committed to The Governance Code, to attaining the fundraising requirements as defined by Charities Institute Ireland, and to the reporting requirements of the Charities Regulatory Authority (CRA).
We are also fully committed to achieving best practice in all areas of our work, including how the Board is constituted and maintained. It is an unfortunate reality that sometimes the many charities which are built on the values of trust, transparency, and accountability are associated with the alleged actions of a minority of individuals working in certain parts of the charity and not for profit sector. We work to show that SBHI exists to serve all those living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus across Ireland at all times.
To this ends, it should be known that all Directors of the company are volunteers and none receive payment for their service in these capacities.
All financial accounting activity relating to the work of SBHI is audited by a chartered accountant. As well as this, we work closely with all of our funders to review the services we offer and report on all related spending according to their stipulated deadlines.
As with all successful organisations, we are always looking to improve, and our commitment is to listen to feedback from all stakeholders and to ensure that we are doing the very best for the public we serve.
